Reverse Engineering of Impact Drill

Overview:

As part of my undergraduate coursework, I purchased an impact drill and performed a reverse engineering study to understand its mechanical design and functionality. I disassembled the drill into all individual components, measured each part and modeled them in Siemens NX.

Technical Work

  • Created detailed 3D part models for each component and create assembly modeling and exploded view animations.

  • Conducted motion simulation to analyze gear and spindle kinematics during drilling operation.

  • Performed Finite Element Method (FEM) analysis to evaluate stress distribution on key load-bearing parts under torque load.

  • Applied material assignments, constraints, and motion joints to replicate real-world operating. conditions.
